Module Checklist

What is a module?

Remember that one of this program's main goals is for you to produce an online course (fully online, blended, supplemental) that can be used in your classroom.

Online courses are usually chunked according to content. We like to call the chunks "modules". You might think of this as a unit or multiple step lesson in which you will instruct your students using blended integration of the Moodle course environment to achieve a given content objective.

Each module created by a participant in this program will be unique. Modules may contain varying numbers of activities and can be implemented in a variety of ways.

A module should have at least one overall objective for students. An outcome for student learning should be identified (knowledge, skill, or ability) and assessed within the scope of the unit work.

What should be in a module?

  • Objective or Learning Outcome
  • Outline of  Moodle activities in Module with due dates and point values
  • Materials/Media to be used in the module
  • Pre-assessment
  • New Mexico Standards and Benchmarks for content area and technology standards
  • Skills needed and to be learned chart
  • Detailed instructions
  • Student resources
    • Examples: handouts, websites, Power Point presentations, video  clips, podcasts
  • Interactive activities - collaboration, problem solving, discussion - how will you do this?
  • Assessment (see Module Assessment Plan - this link takes you to another wiki)
  • There should be clear way for students/teachers to communicate with each other. This should be easily reached in the module.
