Blocks integrate components of Moodle and the Internet. The more you understand about these components, the more the blocks will be meaningful. Start with what you understand and build on that.

Activating Moodle Blocks

Remember, just like other content in Moodle, you can always hide it from your students. If you start a block and you're not ready for students to see it yet, then hide it until you are ready.

Popular Blocks

  • Non-standard
  • Default blocks
You will be able to explain the purpose of popular standard Blocks.

Other ways to use the HTML Block

Resources for Cool Widgets:

If you use a widget that does not work, you may want to see if the provider allows you to select different widgets for different web platforms.

Often times the 'other' option or the 'website' option is the one that works best with Moodle. You can learn this by trying it out and being prepared to test it before it goes through for students.

Calendar Block

  • Linked to Upcoming Events
  • Linked to all activities with dates (assignments, etc)
  • Can include Site, Course, Group and Individual events
You will observe how to add the calendar block.

  • May need assistance of your administrator to activate
You will observe how to add RSS feeds to a block in your course.
